Idealab Studio is a venture builder founded in 2018 by Bill Gross, building on the legacy of Idealab - the world's first and longest-running technology incubator established in 1996. Idealab Studio creates groundbreaking companies whose products and services change the way people think, live, and work. The studio focuses on identifying big problems in the world that have technology solutions, testing ideas in parallel, and when promising, recruiting great teams, spinning them off into independent companies, and helping them grow successful businesses. Idealab Studio invests in artificial intelligence, robotics, consumer, e-commerce, enterprise, and clean energy sectors. The studio operates with a proven model: starting with 100% ownership but immediately giving at least 50% to the founding team, providing initial capital with typically 6 months of runway, and helping companies raise external funding as soon as possible. Unlike traditional VCs or incubators, Idealab Studio brainstorms ideas from scratch, prototypes them, and spins them off as brand new companies. The studio's success is built on the pioneering work of Idealab, which has created over 150 companies with more than 50 IPOs and acquisitions, including groundbreaking successes like GoTo.com/Overture (which invented the paid-click/CPC model that powers internet monetization), Energy Vault, and Heliogen.
